About the $5 Liberty Gold Half Eagle PCGS MS62:

One of best buys right now is the $5 Liberty Half Eagle. These coins carry an official face value of $5, were issued from 1839 through 1908, and contain approximately 1/4 oz of pure gold. Because of their limited mintage, pre-1933 gold coins can be hard to come by, making them a great piece of any collection.

Highlights of this Coin:

  • Contains .2418 ounces of pure gold
  • Has a face value 5$
  • Individual coins ship in protective flips
  • Comes in "MS62" condition
  • Graded by the Professional Coin Grading Service
  • 7 different mints in the U.S. produced these coins

About the Half Eagle:

In total, seven different mints struck this coin from 1839-1908. Made in Philadelphia, San Francisco, Carson City, New Orleans, Denver, Dahlonega, and Charlotte, these coins saw a large fairly large mintage, with some dates having more than 3 million coins produced.

Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the $5 Liberty Half Eagle features Lady Liberty inspired by a painting from artist Bejamin West. On the coin Lady Liberty faces left, with the word "Liberty" struck in her crown. The edge of the coin contains the 13 stars and the year of mintage. The back of the coin is just as well designed, with the classic portrait of an eagle with its wings outstretched. In one of its talons it hold arrows, and the other is gripping an olive branch, the symbol of peace. The words "United States of America", "In God We Trust" and the face value are also inscribed on the coin.

With the United States Government having began efforts in 1933 to collect and melt these coins into gold bars, $5 Liberty Half Eagles are now more difficult to come by despite their high mintages, making these an iconic part of any collection.

All orders from Monument Metals are guaranteed as described, shipped discretely, and fully insured.
