About the 2017 Canada 1/20 Oz Gold Maple Leaf

Standard format Canadian Gold Maples are produced in five sizes: 1 ounce1/2 ounce1/4 ounce1/10 ounce, and these diminutive 1/20 ounce coins. Despite their size, they are produced to the exact same quality and purity specifications as the larger Gold Maples.

Here are some highlights of this coin:

  • Each coin is certified to be one-twentieth of one ounce, and at least 99.99% pure gold ("four nines").
  • Legal tender in Canada for C$1.00; guaranteed by the government of Canada.
  • Each Gold Maple Leaf coin features precisely machined radial lines - a security feature that is pushing the bounds of engraving technology.
  • Dates vary from the first year of production, 1979, up to the present.
  • Relatively low premium over spot price compared to other fractional gold coins of this size.

The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf is one of the world’s most popular and frequently traded gold bullion coins. It has been produced annually since 1979 by the Royal Canadian Mint in Ottawa. Standard issue gold Maple Leaf coins, regardless of size, are struck in .9999 pure gold (although some special edition .99999 gold coins have been released by RCM in the past few years). These coins are presented in the original plastic sheets from RCM; smaller orders will be partitioned from the original sheets of 40 coins and put into flips.

"Fractional gold," a term referring to gold coins weighing less than one ounce, is a popular choice for investors and collectors who might not want to commit to an investment in a full ounce of gold. These twentieth-ounce coins allow for far greater flexibility in how much gold must be bought or sold at any one time. Monument Metals also offers other fractional Gold Maples, including 1/2 ounce1/4 ounce, and 1/10 ounce coins.

The Royal Canadian Mint also makes a one-gram Gold Maple with a face value of fifty cents Canadian. It is primarily available as part of the 25-gram “Maplegram,” a sleeve of 25 one-gram Gold Maples that are easily divisible. Very recently, RCM released the Maplegram8, an eight-gram version containing eight one-gram Gold Maples. Monument Metals is pleased to offer both the full 25-gram and 8-gram Maplegrams, as well as individual one-gram coins divided from these larger sets.

The Royal Canadian Mint produces both base metal coins for circulation and precious metal bullion products for the nation of Canada. RCM also manufactures circulation coinage for other countries. RCM’s bullion items include gold, silver, platinum and palladium coins and bars. Founded in 1908, the Royal Canadian Mint is a Canadian Crown Corporation that is 100% owned by the government of Canada. Its products are guaranteed by the full faith and credit of the Canadian government. RCM's coins and bars are known throughout the world for their superb quality and advanced design features. Their bullion products are among the most popular in the world among both collectors and investors.
